EA's Madden 27 ratings week has given players plenty to argue about before anyone's even played a full online season. Speed, release ratings, throw power, pass-rush moves - it all matters once the first Weekend League sweat starts. That's also why Madden 27 coins will be on so many players' minds when Ultimate Team opens and everyone wants a quicker route to a usable squad.
The 99 Club debate is already loud1. Chase's release and Stafford's accuracy could punish soft coverage early.
Six names landed in the 99 Club: Myles Garrett, Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Ja'Marr Chase, Trey McBride, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Garrett is the easy one. His pressure changes games even when he doesn't get the sack. Chase and JSN make sense too, especially if route running and catching animations feel as important as they did last year. McBride is a proper headache for linebackers. The Allen rating, though, is where the chat gets messy. Nobody doubts his talent. Some players just feel a 99 should leave less room for the turnovers and uneven stretches people saw.
What each elite card could mean
PlayerLikely early strengthUltimate Team concern
Myles GarrettEdge pressureHigh launch price
JaMarr ChaseSeparation and deep catchesPopular defensive attention
Trey McBrideShort middle mismatchLimited blocking value
Ratings don't win matches by themselves, of course. Animations, abilities, playbooks, and connection quality can turn a great card into a frustrating one. Still, these names give everyone a rough idea of where the early meta may lean.
Ultimate Team needs clearer answers1. Check price movement before chasing a card after one loud streamer game.
EA has talked up upgraded progression systems, Evolutions, and Ultimate Captains, but players still need the useful details. How long will upgrades take? Are Captain tokens easy to earn? Will Evolutions stay relevant beyond the first promo? That stuff changes how people spend from day one. A card with modest ratings but cheap upgrade paths can be better than a flashy launch card that eats the whole coin balance. Plenty of players get caught doing that. They build one expensive position, then run a weak secondary and wonder why every game becomes a shootout.
Finding value before the market settlesThe full ratings database should be more helpful than the headline reveals. Look for receivers with decent speed and strong release numbers, linebackers who can actually move sideways, and linemen with useful pass-block ratings rather than just a big overall. Early on, chemistry and role fit matter more than people admit. A lower-rated safety with speed can save more games than a famous veteran who can't keep up with a corner route. Keep some coins back as well. The first few days are usually wild, and patient buyers often get better deals once the opening rush cools down.
The opening weeks will reward patienceRatings week is fun because it gives every fan a reason to back their guy or complain about somebody else's number. Once Madden 27 is live, the real test starts: building around what works, not just what looks good on the lineup screen. Whether you grind challenges, flip cards, or decide to buy mut coins for a faster start, smart squad choices will matter more than chasing every new name.
